George Bruce Cortelyou letter signed as Secretary to the President dated 25 September 1901. Cortelyou assists Theodore Roosevelt in his first two weeks as President in the wake of William McKinley's assassination by reaching to Wyndham R. Meredith of Richmond, Virginia to arrange a meeting. Typed on Executive Mansion mourning stationery, it reads: ''...The President requests me to say...he will be glad to see the Committee [of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers]...George B. Cortelyou''. 2pp. on card-style stationery measures 4.75'' x 7.75''. Envelope included. Creasing and very light soiling, else near fine.
