Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi autograph letter signed. The Statue of Liberty sculptor signs his name ''Bartholdi'' on this letter to a Mr. Spaulding in French on his personal crested stationery, datelined Paris, 30 April 1888. English translation reads, ''...I thank you for your kind thoughts but you must excuse me at this time if I cannot come to see you. I am so pressed for time in what I am doing that I can't find time for the day's work...'' 2pp. letter measures 4.5'' x 7.'' Light creasing and mounting traces. Very good. With translation.
