Martin Luther King signed first edition of his ''Strive Toward Freedom / The Montgomery Story'' published by Harper & Brothers: New York: 1958. Dr. King inscribes the front free endpaper, in full: ''To: Senator Paul H. Douglas / In appreciation for the great work you have so unselfishly done for the cause of freedom and human dignity / With warm Regards / Martin L. King Jr.'' The great civil rights leader was enthusiastically backed by the Illinois senator. Dr. King's moving account of successful nonviolent resistance in the Montgomery, Alabama bus strike runs 224pp. Bound in teal cloth boards with a black cloth spine and silver lettering. In original unclipped dustjacket. Toning to leaves, with a pencil notation to the rear free endpaper, else fine. Dustjacket shows shelf wear to the rear cover, a small ink mark to the title, small tears to the top edges, sunning to backstrip and wear to the spine ends. Overall good to very good.
