Franklin Pierce CDV taken in May 1857 by Mathew Brady. Pierce, the fourteenth President, was a Northerner with Southern sympathies and saw slavery issues erupt throughout his single term in office that ended two months before this photo was taken. ''E. & H.T. Anthony, 501 Broadway, New York. / From Photographic Negative in Brady's National Portrait Gallery'' is stamped on the verso of the CDV. Small tear to upper right corner of print, else very good condition.
