Original U.S. Consulate sign, circa early 1900's. The U.S. began setting up consulates and embassies worldwide around this time, and this sign commemorates the country's beginning attempts at foreign diplomacy. Circular sign reads: ''Consulate / United States of America'' and depicts the bald eagle holding a branch and arrows in his talons, with an ''E Pluribus Unum'' ribbon in his beak. The ''Ing-Rich'' brand sign, made of metal, is quite heavy and measures 24'' in diameter. Includes punched holes for hanging. Red stripes on the shield are made of tape and there is some wear to border areas and mild surface wear, else near fine.
