Award presented to tennis great Arthur Ashe by the Masons' Richmond Consistory Prince Hall Affiliated Lodge #22. It is unknown whether Ashe was a member of the society, but he is here honored by it, from his hometown chapter. Plaque reads: ''Richmond Consistory PHA #22 / To / ARTHUR ASHE / For / Dedicated Service To Humanity / 1987 / Bernard Johnson C~I~C''. Affixed to plaque is a glass circle, under which a pair of eagles perch over the words, ''Spes Mea In Deo Est''. Latin phrase translates to, ''My Hope Is In God''. The number 32 lies within a triangle drawn on the eagles' middle. African American mason Prince Hall expanded the esoteric fraternity to include black membership after the Revolutionary War, and more than 40 lodges are considered PHA, Prince Hall Affilited. Plaque, made by CP Dean's Trophies measures 12'' x 15''. A tiny nick to the metal plate's right edge near the bottom, else fine. With an LOA from Arthur Ashe's widow.
