Albumen photo No. 85 from Alexander Gardner's 1866 ''Photographic Sketch Book of the Civil War'' entitled ''Blandford Church, Petersburg, Virginia,'' taken in April 1865. Photograph shows a soldier and civilian in the church cemetery, where Confederate families had buried their dead soldiers. With accompanying text from the book describing the history of the church and its escape from damage during the Siege of Petersburg. 9'' x 7'' photo is affixed to the 16.5'' x 12.5'' book page; text is on separate book page. Near fine.
