Ulysses S. Grant document signed as President. Dated 20 February 1871, he signs ''U.S. Grant'', and in so doing appoints Charles R. McFadden to a four-year term as Deputy Postmaster in Waterville, Maine. Partially printed and countersigned by Hamilton Fish as Secretary of State. A large pearl color seal is affixed to the lower left. 1pp. measures 18'' x 11.5''. Creasing and separation to fold intersection, else near fine.
