John Hancock partial document signed as President of the Continental Congress, a position he held from 1775-1777. Here, Hancock commissions a soldier into the Revolutionary War, reading in part, ''...Army of the United Colonies, raised for the Defence of American Liberty, and for repelling every Invasion thereof...This Commission to continue in Force until revoked by this future Congress...'' Signed John Hancock with his characteristic paraph. Trimmed document measures approximately 9'' x 8.5''. Archival repair and mounting remnants to verso, overall very good condition, with an excellent bold signature.
