Oil mogul John D. Rockefeller signed stock certificate for Standard Oil Co., issuing 250 shares to Josiah Macy, Jr., a noted 19th century philanthropist and sea captain. Dated 7 April 1875, stock is signed ''John D. Rockefeller'' as company President, countersigned by Henry M. Flager as secretary. Formed in 1870, Standard Oil Co. stock is much rarer than that of Standard Oil Trust, which was formed in 1882. Stock certificate has original receipt attached, measuring 15.5'' x 6.5''. Signatures crossed out and chipping to left edge from its removal from binding. Overall very good condition.
