Hugh McCullouch letter signed as Treasury Secretary under Andrew Johnson. McCullouch was originally nominated to this cabinet position by Abraham Lincoln, serving as both Treasury Secretary and Comptroller of the Currency during the Civil War. He is credited as one of the architects for funding the War. On Treasury Department stationery, letter is dated 10 July 1868. Measures 7.75'' x 9.625'', with small portrait of McCullough affixed to bottom. Very good condition. Also accompanied by engraving of McCullouch.
