'Prince Valiant'' sketch by Hal Foster for the Sunday comic strip published 17 October 1976, #2,071 in the series. Lot also includes the Story page, and another page with descriptive action for each panel, all done so that John Cullen Murphy could draw the completed strip, which is Lot 249 in this sale. From 1971-1980, Murphy drew his ''Prince Valiant'' strips based on the sketches and stories that Foster continued to create. In this edition, Val is successful in securing the future for his sister-in-law Helene (sister of Aleta), whom he saved from her treacherous husband Dionseus. Val plays cupid to match Helene with the bachelor King Telamon, and can therefore return home after a successful mission. Pencil sketch measures 8.5'' x 11'', as does the Story page, and also the page where Foster describes the action in each panel. Three hole punch to each page, with light toning, otherwise near fine condition. From the estate of John Cullen Murphy.
