Extremely rare Gerald Ford autograph letter signed as Vice President. Letter on VP stationery is dated 19 January 1974 and addressed to Mr. [Herman] Darvick, former UACC President and collector of Vice Presidential autographs. Letter reads in full, "Your letter of Dec. 13th has been received & I apologize for my tardiness. This was occasioned by a family vacation & a big back-log of mail. I congratulate you on your fine project & wish you well. Trusting this note is satisfactory, I remain, Sincerely, Jerry Ford." This letter is reproduced on page 590 of Volume 2 of Charles Hamilton's "American Autographs." According to American Book Prices Current and the Americana Exchange, no other autograph letter signed of Gerald R. Ford as Vice President has ever been offered for sale at a major public auction and the only ALS of Ford as President ever to be sold was a letter to a supporter four days after losing the 1976 election to Carter ("Your words meant so much to us at a tough and traumatic time…"). This letter sold at Christie's in 2001 for $25,850.
