Antique lithograph of George Washington as a freemason. Incredibly detailed art by Strobridge & Co. Lithographers of Cincinnati depicts Washington surrounded by masonic symbols and flanked by pillars bearing his dates of birth and death. Washington was one of the most famous Freemasons in history. Initiated into the Fredericksburg, Virginia lodge in 1752, he ultimately became Master of Virginia's Alexandria No. 22, later named Alexandria-Washington Lodge in his honor. With his left hand he grasps a gavel and holds it upon a scroll bearing a portion of his own quote: ''The grand object of Masonry is to promote the Happiness of the Human Race''. The famous compass and square icon appears on his masonic apron, along with the all-seeing eye. In his right hand is a trowel, and his initial ''G'' glows overhead. An American flag is draped over each upper corner, and illustrated scenes depict symbols of hope. Measures 18.75'' x 23''. Toning and mounted to paper board, else near fine.
