Voting booth from the historic 2000 Presidential election between George W. Bush and Al Gore, the closest presidential election in U.S. history. Booth is from Florida, whose recount was stopped in the Supreme Court decision of Bush v. Gore, ultimately giving the electoral college win to Bush by a margin of only 537 popular votes. The Floridian voting booths, such as this one, were highly controversial for the abundance of ''hanging chads'' on punch card ballots that left the voters' intent hard to discern. In fact, after the election Florida changed its voting machines. Machine is #704 from Sarasota County, made by CES Votomatic. Instructions are present which ironically tell voters to ''pull off any partially punched 'chips' that might be hanging''. Voting booth stands assembled at 5' tall, 29'' deep and 27'' wide. It folds up into a suitcase measuring approximately 22'' x 20'' x 4''. Cracks to blue case, overall very good condition.
