First edition, first printing of the AA ''Big Book'': ''Alcoholics Anonymous: The Story of How More Than One Hundred Men Have Recovered From Alcoholism''. New York: Works Publishing Company, 1939. One of just approximately 1,900 surviving copies from the 4,860 first printed in April of 1939, before becoming one of the most influential books of the 20th century. All first printing points are present: Half-title page is followed by the title page and pages v-viii, with another half-title page before the text begins; complete text is followed by three blank leaves. Runs 400pp. and measures 6.25'' x 9.25'' x 2'' thick, bound in original red cloth boards with gilt lettering. Book is ex-libris with associated stamps and notations. Some darkening and wear to spine, otherwise a very good copy with firm binding and still bright red boards.
