F.A. 1973 Challenge Cup runners-up medal from the famous F.A. final, awarded to striker Allan Clarke. Fans were stunned as the unlikely Sunderland team triumphed over favorite Leeds United. Gold medal features a pair of footballers in action, inscribed ''The Football Association''. At the bottom is the F.A. crest of three lions passant, flanked by floral designs. Reverse is labeled with the name of the F.A., ''Challenge Cup / Runners-Up'', 9ct. gold marks and a laurel sprig design at the bottom. Plain polished rim bears the date of the season as 1972-73. Measures 1.25'' in diameter. Weighs 0.75 ounce, or 22 grams. Housed in original Fattorini & Sons case with hanging hook. Some discoloration. Near fine. With an LOA from Allan Clarke.
