Dwight D. Eisenhower typed letter signed as President, dated 14 May 1953 on official White House stationery. Here, Eisenhower writes to his brother discussing Owen Clarke, who was being considered for Chairman of the Interstate Commerce Commission: ''...The Owen Clarke case is a difficult one because of some bitter opposition that has made itself felt...he seems to me to be the best fitted man I have heard of for the job...'' Indeed, Clark would be nominated by Eisenhower less than a week later, and ultimately confirmed by the Senate. Signed ''DE'' in black ink. Letter measures 7'' x 8.75'' on one page. Near fine.
