Thompson writes to his childhood friend Paul Semonin, whose house he was helping rent. Letter reads in full, ''I think I have transfered [sic] your castle to two rent-payers - it will be settled this week - Peggy concurs - Olaf paid $70 - I'll put up the other $30 - if the check comes in time - to pay off the ski corp on Jan 10. Right now I'm flat, but I expect $150 this week. I had the Rptr. send you a copy of my Lou[isville] piece - it is heavily edited & cut, with most of the balls cut off - but me & Kazin are in there, hustling for the White Establishment. H''. Thompson's reference to Kazin is Alfred Kazin, whose 1960 article ''In Puerto Rico'' had a strong impact on him. Two page letter (front and verso) measures 7.25'' x 12''.
