Robert F. Kennedy letter signed on ''Kennedy for President'' stationery, dated 8 May 1968, less than one month before his assassination. In this interesting letter, Kennedy agrees to sit down with Hugh Hefner for an interview, ostensibly for ''Playboy'', writing in part, ''I would be happy to sit down with Mr. Heffner [sic] for the kind of interview described in your letter of May 2.'' Kennedy then mentions campaigning in California, where he was killed, ''However, since I will be campaigning in Nebraska, Oregon and California from now until June 4, the interview would have to be arranged in one of these three states...[signed] Robert F. Kennedy''. Signed in black felt-tip and written to Norman Cousins as Chairman of the Editorial Committee for McCall Corp.
Interestingly, Robert Kennedy is thought to have declined Playboy's request for an interview, which this letter possibly contradicts. Hefner wasn't successful in interviewing a Presidential candidate until 1980 with Jimmy Carter, who confessed to ''committing adultery in my heart'', causing immediate problems for his campaign. Single page letter measures 8.5'' x 11''. Minor wear, overall very good plus condition. With Heritage Auctions provenance.
