Lot #6: Carl Jung Autograph Letter Signed -- ''...I am very preoccupied with my paper on synchronicity...''

Description

Carl Jung autograph letter signed, dated 3 September 1949. Jung writes to his mentee, the psychoanalyst Dr. Rivkah Scharf Kluger on his personal stationery, accompanied by his handwritten envelope. Jung apologizes for a tardy letter and laments the correspondence he must keep up with. He also mentions his work on the concept of synchronicity. Letter reads in full,

''Dear Miss! / Your letter arrived here at a time when I had my hands full. My holidays mostly consist of desperate attempts at finding time for myself. It was worst of all when Marie Jeanne was on vacation. It was so bad that I seriously considered disappearing somewhere without leaving an address in order to evade the letters and telegrams - and the visitors as well. Bollingen is too well-known already, and too close.

I must still thank you for your excellent birthday cake. It was very good. I would have been happier, however, if my answer had not been late again. However, so much unfinished business is still in front of me here - stacks of letters and manuscripts! I hope that you enjoyed your vacation. Mrs. Crawley gave me approx. 3500 francs, asking that I pass it on to you to support your academic work. We will have to talk about it sometime soon, when I free again from the obsession that, just for once, I should have real vacations without letters and visitors.

Please excuse my lament! However, writing 10 substantial letters in one day costs me 3/4 of my sleep. Therefore, I can only meet my obligations in divided doses. / I am very preoccupied with my paper on synchronicity, but I manage to grab only 2 days, at the most, during which I can write undisturbed. For that reason, I also dreamed that Churchill had introduced a bill against the hoteliers. / I wish you all the patience that you need. I appreciate it very much that you have been as easy as possible on me, and I deplore not having written any earlier. / With warmest greetings / your devoted / C. G. Jung''.

Letter spans two pages on a sheet measuring 8.25'' x 11.75'', penned in black fountain pen. Folds, with one touching top of signature, else near fine.
