Lot #15: Dwight Eisenhower WWII Autograph Letter Signed -- Eisenhower Writes About Winston Churchill After Their Inspection Trip in 1944: ''He had a grand time - he likes soldiers & they like him!''

Description

Dwight D. Eisenhower autograph letter signed to his wife during WWII. He dates his letter to Mamie simply 3 April [1944]. It reads: ''My darling...Today I've had 2 long conferences and an official luncheon (where, incidentally I got a lot of work accomplished) and have handled a whole basketful of official 'papers'. It's late, but I felt I had to write to tell you that a very very nice letter arrived from you...one of my secretaries brought in a letter from [son] Johnny. I must say he is fine about writing! I try to write him often, too, - but sometimes I go for 10 days to 2 weeks. By the way - your letter today was the first I'd had in 10 days from you. Mickey [McKeogh] is temporarily in the hospital, having an operation on his nose. He has been ailing a bit for some time & I hope this cures him. I miss him terribly because I've allowed myself to grow so dependent upon him. He is a fine, loyal soul. You may have seen in the paper that I took the PM [Prime Minster Winston Churchill] on an inspection trip. He had a grand time - he likes soldiers & they like him! Well sweet - here I must sign off. Take care of yourself, - good care - and don't forget I love you! Always your / Ike''. 2pp. letter on ruled stationery measures 8'' x 10.5''. Creasing, else near fine.
