George Washington autograph letter signed as President, dated 25 March 1796. Washington writes to Mrs. Morris, the wife of principal financier of the Revolutionary War, and signer of the Declaration of Independence Robert Morris. At the time, the Morris's daughter, Hester, and son-in-law, James Markham Marshall, recently moved to England, which Washington references here. James Marshall was also an agent of Washington's to negotiate the release of the Marquis de Lafayette shortly after the Reign of Terror.

Letter reads in full, ''Be so good My dear Madam, to accept my thanks for the perusal of the enclosed sensible letters; - and my sincere congratulations on the safe arrival in London, and health of Mr. & Mrs. Marshall. - With affectionate regard / I am always Yours / G. Washington''. Letter on bifolium stationery measures 8'' x 12.625'' as folded. With addressee on verso of second leaf along with Washington's red wax seal. Folds and light creasing, some discoloration to handwritten portion of letter, and split starting along fold. Second leaf has some paper loss and heavier discoloration. Overall in very good condition. A rare handwritten letter by Washington as President, with association to one of the most important men of the Revolutionary War. With University Archives COA.
