An extraordinary piece of literary history, Ernest Hemingway's own typewriter from the last years of his life. Typewriter was used by Hemingway in Spain when he accepted an assignment from LIFE Magazine to produce articles on the lifestyle of a family of bullfighters beginning in 1959. Hemingway's article outgrew the word limit, and he sent for his friend, editor and biographer A.E. Hotchner to assist him in editing the article. Together they converted the overflow into the manuscript that would become the last work of Hemingway's life, ''The Dangerous Summer,'' published posthumously by Charles Scribner's Sons: New York: 1985. Vintage typewriter by Swedish brand Halda is fully functional and comes housed in original leather case with American Export Line and the French Line travel stickers affixed. Hemingway's name is handwritten on the stickers, though faded. Near fine. With a COA from Neva Davis, the daughter of well-known Hemingway friend Bill Davis, in whose home Hemingway lived while writing ''The Dangerous Summer.''
