Southern American writer William Faulkner signed first edition, first printing of his “Sanctuary,” published by Jonathan Cape & Harrison Smith: New York: 1931. The winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature and two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner inscribes the fly-leaf: “Dr. A. J. Liebmann / William Faulkner / New York / 17 March 1943” in black ink. Faulker’s dark tale of murder runs 380pp., bound in gray cloth boards with fuchsia paper accents and fuchsia lettering. Top edge black. Slight wear to board edges and minor cocking to spine, else near fine. The scarce, original dustjacket features a geometric printed design in black, white and blue. Negligible staining to panels and light wear to the edges. Chipping to the top edge of the spine leaves with small paper loss. Very good condition. Sold for $8,513.

Scarce signed William Faulkner novel, “Absalom, Absalom!” New York: Random House: 1936. One of 300 numbered 1st edition rare book copies signed by Faulkner himself. One corner very lightly bumped, hint of wear at the corners, faint fading at the spine and mild toning to the edges of the boards; a lovely, thoroughly near fine copy. The centerpiece of any modern first edition library. Sold for $4,500.

In very good condition with crack to front hinge and light soiling. Toning to dust jacket and crease along spine, dust jacket is also in very good condition. Housed in blue-gray slipcase. Book is in beautiful, near fine condition, still in its original acetate wraps which are lightly chipped at edges. Measures 6″ x 9″. Copy is further housed in the original slipcase, which has some discoloration along edges and spine, and a red stamp on bottom edge, in very good condition. Sold for $926.
