Madeleine Le Beau Signature — The Rarest Autograph From the “Casablanca” Cast — With JSA COA

Marie Madeleine Berthe Lebeau (10 June 1923 – 1 May 2016) was a French film actress who also appeared in American films, most notably Casablanca. Lebeau’s best moments in Casablanca are during the scene when French nationals sing “La Marseillaise”, drowning out a group of German soldiers singing “Die Wacht am Rhein”. The camera captures the (genuine) tears on her face, and later at the end of the anthem when she cries out “Vive la France ! Vive la démocratie !” France had fallen to Nazi forces, and many of the actors performing in the scene were real-life refugees from Europe.

Signature by Madeleine Le Beau, the rarest of autographs from the “Casablanca” cast. During the scene where the French nationals – singing “La Marseillaise”, drown out the Germans also singing, Le Beau can be seen with real tears streaming down her face, as she and her Jewish husband were actually WWII French refugees. Composed in fountain pen, she signs, “Sincerely / Madeleine Le Beau”. Slip measures 5.5″ x 3.25″. Uneven right edge and uniform toning, else near fine condition. With JSA COA. Sold for $2,500.
