Ulysses S. Grant was an American soldier and politician who served as the 18th president of the United States from 1869 to 1877. Before his presidency, Grant led the Union Army as Commanding General of the United States Army in winning the American Civil War. As president, Grant worked with the Radical Republicans in the Reconstruction of the Union while having to deal with corruption in his administration.

White House China From the Ulysses S. Grant
Very scarce White House china bowl from the Ulysses S. Grant administration. President Grant and First Lady Julia Dent Grant ordered this set of china in 1869, made by Haviland and Co. and hand-painted by Limoges, featuring 24 different flowers, all with the gilt Coat of Arms at top center. Embellishments include gilt rimming around a decorative yellow band. Large, shallow soup bowl measures 9.375″ in diameter and 1.75″ high, ideal for display. Minute wear, overall near fine condition. Sold for $2,500.

Bill Clinton White House China Service Plate to Honor the 200th Anniversary of the White House
Beautiful Lenox china service plate made for the Bill Clinton White House to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the White House in 2000. This service plate – the largest of the plates, is the only one to feature the large gold band, with the north front of the White House in gilt at center. This 200th anniversary collection is the only time depictions of the White House were used in the design of White House china. Plate reads on the underside, ”The White House / 200th Anniversary / 1800-2000 / Lenox”. Plate measures 12” in diameter. Near fine condition. Sold for $3,176.
Franklin D. Roosevelt White House Exhibit China — Dinner Plate by Lenox
Franklin D. Roosevelt White House dinner plate, part of the special Exhibit edition used when presidential china is put on display. Beautiful cream color porcelain dinner plate features a color eagle at top, surrounded by a gilt rim and a navy blue border dotted with gilt stars. The Lenox White House Exhibit Collection maker’s mark is present to the underside, with the date of 1934. Measures just over 10.5” in diameter. Near fine. From the Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection. Sold for $2,188.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt Official White House China — Commissioned for the 1939 World’s Fair
Very rare official White House china plate commissioned by President Franklin D. Roosevelt for the 1939 World’s Fair, held in Flushing Park, New York. Made by Lenox, one of the United States’ only producers of ”bone china”, which is distinguished for its white luminosity and chip resistance. In 1935 at the height of the Great Depression, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt spearheaded a campaign to use American china, ordering 1,722 pieces of Lenox china in October 1934. Five years later at the World’s Fair, this plate was on display in the U.S. Pavilion at the Fair, and then used for a formal dinner hosted by the President. After the Fair, the china was incorporated into the Roosevelt Service at the White House. Plate depicts the Great Seal of the U.S. at center in gilt, with a border of gold stars encircling a gold band. Back of plate has the original Lenox logo and applied gold numbers, ”1803/P-362-A” to itemize the plate in the set. Plate has a 10.5” circumference and is in fine condition. Sold for $2,082.
Franklin D. Roosevelt White House Exhibit China — Cup & Saucer by Lenox — Fine
Cup and saucer in the Franklin D. Roosevelt White House pattern, part of the special Exhibit edition used when presidential china is put on display. Ivory cup and saucer feature gilt embellishments surrounding a navy blue border dotted with stars; color presidential seals are present on the cup at 6 o’clock and on the saucer at 12 o’clock. The Lenox White House Exhibit Collection maker’s mark is present to undersides and dated 1934. Cup measures 3.75” in diameter at the mouth. Saucer measures 5.75” in diameter. Fine. From the Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection. Sold for $1,563.
