1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics Relay Torch — Exciting Memento of the Historic Games

Olympic torch carried in the relay leading to flame lighting for the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. In the United States, the relay began on 8 May 1984 at the United Nations Plaza in New York continuing across the country with more than 3,600 runners carrying the torch 9,300 miles to Los Angeles. This torch was carried by a runner near Santa Barbara, California. 1960 Decathlon Gold Medal Winner Rafer Johnson was the final runner, who lit the flame at the L.A. Coliseum on July 28. The design of the torch changes for each Olympic Games; this torch, made of aluminum with a brass finish, measuring 22″ x 4.75″, weighs 2.25 pounds. The leather covered handle is encircled with three brass bands. The center band reads: “Games of the XXXIIIrd Olympiad / Los Angeles 1984.” The top of the torch features the words “Citius / Altius / Fortius” (faster, higher, stronger) and a drawing of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The torch, in a zippered pouch, shows minor wear. Overall in near fine condition. Sold for $2,527.

Bronze Medal From the 1992 Summer Olympics, Held in Barcelona, Spain

Bronze medal from the XXV Olympiad, won at the Olympic games in Barcelona, Spain in 1992. Medal, designed by the sculptor Xavier Corbero, features a smaller medal slightly off-center upon the larger portion of the medal. Medal features an image of the goddess of victory with “XXV Olimpiada Barcelona 1992″ on obverse, and the official logo of the 1992 games borne to verso. Measures 70 mm or 2.75” in diameter. Weighs 228 grams or 8 oz. Near fine. Sold for $5,125.

1960 Olympics Torch Used in the Summer Games — With Original Holding Box

Olympic relay torch used in the 1960 Summer Olympics. The Torch Relay tradition began in 1928, and transports a spark from the parent flame in Olympia, Greece to the host city in time for the opening ceremonies, in this case Rome. Designed by Pier Luigi Nervi and Amedeo Maiuri, the torch is based on a classical model and is meant to resemble torches depicted on ancient monuments. Made of aluminum and then bronze plated, the torch bears the Olympic rings and is labeled “GIOCHI DELLA XVII OLIMPIADE”. Comes housed inside original decorative box. Torch measures 15.75″ and weighs 1 lb. 3 oz., or 550 g (without flame). Some fading of bronze plating and minor nicks from use, otherwise near fine condition.  Sold for $4,933.

Olympic Torch From the 2014 Olympic Games Held in Sochi, Russia

Olympic torch from the 2014 Olympic Torch Relay. The Torch Relay tradition was begun in 1928, where a spark from the parent flame in Olympia, Greece ignites the torch that begins the Relay, ending in the host city in time for the opening ceremonies, in this case Sochi on 7 February 2014. Silver and red torch features ”Sochi.ru” Olympic logo to top with lamp component to top. Housed in official tan carrying bag with red strap. Measures 37” long and 5.5” across the handle. Black discoloration to top from use. Near fine condition. Sold for $3,438.
