Pres. Washington Dinner Invite
President George Washington White House dinner invitation. Original invitation to dine at the White House with George and Martha Washington, circa 1790s. Printed text reads in part: “The President of the United States / and Mrs. Washington, request the Pleasure of…Company to Dine…An answer is requested.” Blank lines where person of honor and date and time would be handwritten remain empty. Printed on heavy card stock measuring 4.75″ x 2.75″. Fine condition. Sold for $5,431.
George Washington Original, Rare Invite to Dine at the “President’s House”
George Washington engraved invitation for dinner at the Presidential residence, likely the mansion rented from Robert Morris at 524 Market Street in Philadelphia, where the Washingtons lived from November 1790 to March 1797. Invitation reads: “The President of the United States and Mrs. Washington, request the Pleasure of Company to Dine, on ___ next, at ___o’Clock. ______179 An answer is requested”. Early printed presidential invitations are rather scarce and highly desirable among presidential and political collectors. Measures 6″ x 4″. Tiny spot of foxing affects one letter in first line, else fine condition. Sold for $3,670.
Early George and Martha Washington 1790’s Dinner Invite — From Executive Mansion in Philadelphia
Printed, unused dinner invitation from George and Martha Washington. The Washingtons entertained in the President’s House, the executive mansion in Philadelphia, where they lived from November 1790 until the end of Washington’s presidency in 1797. The 6″ x 3.75″ invitation reads: “…The President of the United States and Mrs. Washington request the pleasure of _ company to Dine, on next, at o’Clock, _ 179 / An answer is requested…” Overall in very good condition with light wear. Sold for $3,336.
