Sell Your Alfred Bricher Art at Auction

Alfred Thompson Bricher was a self-taught American artist primarily of the 19th century who identified with the Hudson River School and White Mountain art movement. He painted landscapes and seascapes using both oil and watercolor mediums. Though he passed away in 1908 his work began to garner more attention in the 1980s and he is regarded as one of the best maritime painters of the 19th century.

We at Nate D. Sanders Auctions sold an Alfred Bricher oil painting from 1877 for $5,994. Please see details below:

Alfred Bricher Oil Painting

Alfred Thompson Bricher’s 1877 oil on canvas, “By the River Bank”. A member of the generation of American artists known as the Hudson River School, Bricher is often considered one of the best maritime painters of the late nineteenth century. During the 1870’s he devoted himself almost entirely to marine painting and spent much of his time exploring the coast of Maine, Narragansett Bay and the Jersey Shore. In this piece cows graze beneath the majesty of nearby mountains while all is bathed in a sublime light that reveals the tranquil power of the river bank. Painting measures approximately 20.5″ x 13″ and is beautifully displayed in gilt frame measuring 28.5″ x 20.5″. Clearly signed and dated “A T Britcher ’77” in lower right corner. Fine condition. Sold for $5,994.

Marjorie Reed Western Landscape

Marjorie Reed original landscape painting. Oil on canvas, signed to lower right. Measures 24″ x 20″; 29″ x 25″ framed. Marjorie Reed was born in 1915, the daughter of artist Walter Reed, an illustrator for Walt Disney. She was raised in Los Angeles, but from a young age yearned for the life of the country. After attending the Chouinart Art School and the Art Center school in Los Angeles, she found her most significant tutelage with renowned California landscape artist Jack Wilkinson Smith. She moved dozens of times throughout her adult life, living primarily in Arizona and Southern California. Her paintings often feature stagecoaches, cowboys, horses and other iconography of the west. Horses were a particular passion of Reed’s, an interest she traced to her girlhood dream of living on a ranch. In this painting, she depicts a placid scene of a Native American couple on a pack mule in the midst of a sprawling desert. Light general soiling to canvas. Excellent condition. Sold for $3,267.
