Sell Your 1972 O Pee-Chee #129 Bobby Orr PSA 10
Robert Gordon “Bobby” Orr (March 20, 1948-) is widely considered among the top three greatest hockey players in the history of the NHL, and most certainly the greatest defenseman the league has ever seen. Though his father urged Bobby to focus on offense primarily as a forward, his hockey coach as a boy saw his abilities and turned him into a defenseman who utilized his offensive skills as well. The small defenseman soon grew into an imposing rearguard, playing with Boston’s affiliate the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey Association-Juniors. Orr had been in the Bruins’ sights since he was 14. Bobby Orr’s two-way style of play made him a threat at both ends of the ice, scoring clutch goals and sniping from the point as well as delivering thunderous checks, blocking shots, moving opposing players out of scoring range and scrapping in fights when necessary. His tough, hard-nosed ability combined with his scoring touch earned him the 1967 Calder Trophy honoring the NHL’s top rookie. An obvious quick learner, and would-be revolutionary, Orr won his first of a record eight consecutive (1968-1975) Norris Trophies in his second year. His third season in the NHL, Bobby led the league in plus/minus with a +65. Orr’s plus/minus goal differentials over his career are some of the most spectacular numbers in the history of the game as he was a record-setting +124 in 1970-71, meaning that when an even-strength goal is scored, players on the ice earn a plus one, and conversely when there is a goal against.
