Currency Grading and Authentication (CGA) was established in 1998 and is the first American paper money service created the request of collectors and dealers for an unbiased third party grading service. They are the first paper currency grading service that adopted the 70 point Sheldon scale already utilized in the coin industry. The CGA also assigns banknotes with a descriptor of uncirculated, almost uncirculated, extremely fine, and so forth to indicator their condition. The CGA has graded hundreds of thousands of banknotes since 1998, prides themselves on not grading coins or other collectibles and has no conflicts of interest.
