Francis Ouimet Signed Limited Edition of “A Game of Golf” — Scarce
Francis Ouimet signed limited edition of “A Game of Golf: A Book of Reminiscence.” Published by Riverside Press: Cambridge, MA: 1932. “The father of amateur golf” signs upon the limitation page, “Francis Ouimet”. American golfer Ouimet won the U.S. Open in 1913 when he was only 20, a win credited with bringing golf into the mainstream of American sports. The 273pp. volume, measuring 5.75″ x 8.5″, is numbered 93 of 550. Also included, found inside the book, is a 3″ x 2″ card, possibly handwritten by Ouimet, reading, “Merry Christmas to you and your family from Francis”. Moderate fading to backstrip of original green boards; very slight separation at binding and minor toning to pages, many of which are still uncut. Overall in very good plus condition. Sold for $1,575.

“Down the Fairway: The Golf Life and Play of Robert T. Jones, Jr.” by Robert T. Jones, Jr. and O.B. Keeler. New York: Minton, Balch and Company: 1927. First trade edition, first printing rare book. Signed in pencil on front free end paper by golf legends Bobby Jones and Maureen Orcutt. Previous owner’s pencil signature also on ffep, as well as pencil dateline, “Pinehurst, N.C. / Mar 24 ’32.” Octavo hardcover runs 239 pages. Top edge stained green with a deckled fore-edge and bottom edge. Very good. Sold for $3,900.
Bobby Jones Signed Copy of ”Golf Is My Game”
Bobby Jones signed copy of his memoir, ”Golf Is My Game”, in original dust jacket. New York: Doubleday, 1960. Jones inscribes the front free endpaper, ”For Atley Kitchings / With best wishes, / Robert T. Jones Jr.” Though a lawyer by profession, Jones was the first golfer to win the Grand Slam and routinely bested top professional golfers such as Walter Hagen. Book follows Jones’ life and his record setting Grand Slam year, illustrated with drawings and photos. Book measures 6.25” x 9.5”. Dust jacket showing $4.50 price is in very good condition with minimal chipping to edges and spine. Book has light shelf wear, overall near fine. Sold for $1,094.
