Sell Your Dr Seuss Cat in the Hat 1st Edition
The Cat in the Hat is the beloved 1957 Dr. Seuss children’s book that made him a household name in children’s literature. The book also revolutionized the way language skills were taught to children. Rather than textbooks, the use of illustrated books was emphasized. The Cat in the Hat was originally published by both Random House, who printed the version for bookstores, and Houghton Mifflin who published the version for schools.
We at Nate D. Sanders Auctions sold a first edition copy of Cat in the Hat for $2,200. Please see below for details:
First Printing of Dr. Seuss’ “The Cat in The Hat” With First Printing Dustjacket in Near Fine Condition
First edition, first printing of Dr. Seuss’ classic “The Cat in the Hat” published by Random House: New York: 1957. Includes all first edition points: matte hardcover boards with educators’ reviews and absence of Beginner Books series to rear cover. First printing dustjacket was partially clipped, but a sliver remains confirming the 200/200 price. Immensely popular book features Seuss at his best: “…We looked! Then we saw him step in on the mat! We looked! And we saw him! The Cat in the Hat!…” Runs 61pp., bound in pictorial boards measuring 6.75″ x 9.25″. Prior owner’s name is written in pencil with two additional pencil lines upon verso of the front free-endaper and a tiny white circular flaw to the ink on the rear free endpaper. Faint stain to upper outer corner of pages 23-24 and small stain to bottom of page 39. Very light wear to board edges, else near fine. Dustjacket bears a Marshall Field & Company price tag to the rear flap and shows minor creasing and edge wear, else near fine. A scarce first printing of a treasure in children’s literature. Sold for $2,200.
