Sell Your 2000 W Platinum American Eagle Proof Set at Auction
The American Platinum Eagle is America’s official platinum coin that was introduced in 1995 and is comprised of 99.95% platinum. The currency was initially released in four different denominations, tenth, quarter, half and one troy ounce, with respective face values of $10, $25, $50 and $100. The 1 troy oz coin with a face value of $100 is the highest among any U.S. released coin. The tenth, quarter and half troy oz denominations were discontinued in 2008 leaving just the 1 oz troy/ $100 coin.
Platinum coins were first produced in the 1700s by Spain and in the 1800s by the Russian Empire. In the last several decades they have become popular among collectors. Some other prominent platinum coins include the Australian Platinum Koala, the Chinese Platinum Panda, England’s Isle of Man Noble and Canada’s Platinum Maple Leaf.
