Virginia Woolf Signed Letter
Virginia Woolf typed letter signed and dated July 17th 1936. Virginia Woolf writes on Monk’s House, Rodmell, near Lewes, Sussex personal stationary. Letter is addressed to a Dr. Meng in which Virginia Woolf discusses and clarifies her perspective on money that is owed. This letter captures Virginia Woolf’s strength and defiance on the matter. Reads in part “….I do not think that this is a fair or reasonable way of managing a matter of this kind and I therefore am not willing to make myself responsible for informing Mr Wells of what you propose. As regards myself, as the matter has now been settled over my head and you place me in a position in which I can hardly refuse I enclose a check…” Letter is signed by Virginia Woolf in ink. Sold for $1,306.
Virginia Woolf Autograph Letter Signed
Autograph postcard signed by Virginia Woolf, with address portion also handwritten by Woolf. In black ink she writes to journalist and author Lyn Irvine: ”52 T.S. / We would like to come if we possibly can on Tuesday; but can’t be sure, alas–may we leave it therefore. I’m sorry the [unknown] is so dear. Anyhow it was very badly printed, people say. VW”. Front of postcard includes original postal stamp dated 20 March 1931. Measures 5.5” x 3.5”. Light creasing and uniform toning, otherwise near fine. Sold for $1,135.
