Ernest Hemingway Signed First Limited Edition of ”A Farewell to Arms” — Scarce in Original Slipcase

Ernest Hemingway signed limited first edition of his post-WWI classic, ”A Farewell to Arms”, housed in its original limited edition slipcase, with numbers matching. New York: Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1929. Published on 27 September 1929 in a limited edition of 510 numbered copies, this being #214, signed boldly ”Ernest Hemingway” in black fountain pen. In matching slipcase with Charles Scribner’s Sons plate, again listing the limited edition as #214. Measures 6.5” x 9.5”. Some chipping to seams of slipcase, overall in very good condition. Chipping to spine label, otherwise book is near fine. Sold for $10,313.

Ernest Hemingway signed limited first edition of his post-WWI classic, “A Farewell to Arms”. New York: Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1929. Published 27 September 1929 in a limited edition of 510 numbered copies, this being number 287, signed boldly “Ernest Hemingway” in black fountain pen. Measures 6.25″ x 9.5″. Book is in very good condition with some darkening to spine and a private library label affixed to front pastedown. The leather label on the spine is fine. Housed in a custom one-quarter leather clamshell box with five raised bands. Sold for $6,797.

First edition, limited to 510 copies signed by the author, this being copy number 465 of the only signed limited edition of Hemingway’s major works. Octavo, 355pp. Signed in ink to limitation page. Half parchment over green paper boards. Sans slipcase. Soiling, sunning and wear to boards. Previous owner’s ink signature to front pastedown. Several small tears to edges of front matter. A rare limited edition classic and must-have for literary collectors. Sold for $5,250.

Ernest Hemingway signed limited edition of ”A Farewell to Arms,” Charles Scribner’s Sons: New York: 1929. First edition, limited to 510 copies signed by the author, this being copy number 287 of the only signed limited edition of Hemingway’s major works. One of Hemingway’s most successful books often described as the greatest war novel of all time, signed ”Ernest Hemingway” in ink to the limitation page. Runs 355pp. Bound in sage green cloth boards with vellum spine, measuring 6.25” x 9.25”. Housed in an oatmeal cloth slipcase with caramel leather spine and gilt lettering. Prior owner’s bookplate to front pastedown. Staining to vellum spine and overall wear to exterior, else near fine. Sold for $4,915.

Ernest Hemingway signed limited edition of his classic, ”A Farewell to Arms.” New York: Scribners: 1929. First edition is numbered 337 out of 510 copies signed ”Ernest Hemingway” on the limitation page. Book measures 6” x 9” in original vellum-backed boards with vellum corners and a black morocco spine label. Housed in a custom morocco-backed case. Spine has mild soiling and there are a few chips to lettering on the label. Very small tear to first two leaves at gutter. Else very good to near fine, with a bold, clear signature. Sold for $4,915.

Ernest Hemingway Limited First Edition of “A Farewell to Arms” Signed — The Work That Established Hemingway as an Important Modern American Writer

Ernest Hemingway signs a limited first edition copy of “A Farewell to Arms.” New York: Charles Scribner’s Sons: 1929. The author signs number 70 of 510 copies on the limitation page: “Ernest Hemingway”. Described as the greatest war novel of all time, the semi-autobiographical work sets the tragedy of a doomed romance against the backdrop of World War I and its destruction. This is the only signed limited edition of Hemingway’s major works. First edition book points include no disclaimer on verso of dedication page. No dustjacket. In very good condition with block of fading to front 6.25″ x 9.25″ green board and foxing to vellum spine. Sold for $4664.

Ernest Hemingway signed “A Farewell to Arms”, inscribed on the front pastedown by Hemingway to his friends, “To Florence and Ray Lange / best always repeat always, / Ernest Hemingway.” New York: Charles Scribner’s Sons, later edition. Bound in orange-red boards with title stamped in gilt to front board. Measures 5.625″ x 8.5″. Mild sunning to spine, and light shelf wear. Some toning to endpapers with dedication by recipient Ray Lange on front free endpaper. Overall very good condition housed in black leather jacket. An attractive example of Hemingway’s classic, nicely signed by him. Sold for $2,600.
