H.A. Rey signed first edition of ”Curious George Rides a Bike”, with original ink drawing by Rey of Curious George holding a flower. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1952. Inscribed on title page in blue ballpoint pen: ”To Jessica / with love from her friend / H.A. Rey / May 12, 1962”. Bound in yellow cloth without dust jacket, fully illustrated book contains 48 pages. Measures 8.5” x 10.5”. Significant wear to cover and interior with detached title page, some tears, taping, and attached library card slot. Fair condition. Very scarce signature, especially with original drawing. Sold for $2,000.

Authors H.A. & Margret Rey sign this copy of ”Curious George Goes to the Hospital”, and H.A. Rey sketches the curious little monkey playing ball with a dog. Houghton Mifflin: Boston: 1966. The authors of the popular children’s book inscribe the front free endpaper: ”To the Chapmans – human and canine – with all the best wishes! / from Margret Rey / H.A. Rey / June 23, 1967”. This first edition, second printing is complete with its original yellow dustjacket housing yellow cloth boards and illustrated pastedowns. Runs 48pp. and measures 7.25” x 9.25”. Staining to dustjacket and to bottom edges of book. Very good. Sold for $3,125.
H.A. Rey Hand-Drawn Sketch of Curious George in “Curious George Gets a Medal” — Very Rare Original Signed Drawing of the Famous Little Monkey
Rarely found hand-drawn ink sketch of everyone’s favorite monkey, Curious George. H.A. Rey depicts George with a bouquet of flowers in his outstretched arms, in a proud, marching pose. Above the drawing he inscribes, “To little Nora & little Gerry from the Reys” and dates it 26 September 1957. Drawing appears on the front free endpaper of the first edition of “Curious George Gets a Medal,” authored by Rey in 1957. Houghton Mifflin Co.: Boston: 1957. Yellow-clothed book with red lettering measures 8.75″ x 10.5″ and runs 47pp. In near fine condition with original bright yellow dustjacket showing first edition price of $3.25. Dustjacket is in very good condition with chips along edges and darkening to spine. Sold for $2,507.
“Curious George” First Edition With Original Ink Drawing of Curious George by H.A. Rey, and Signed by The Reys — First Book From 1941
First edition of “Curious George”, the first of the “Original Adventures”, signed by “The Reys” (likely Margret Rey) with original ink drawing by H.A. Rey of Curious George holding a yellow hat. Published by Houghton Mifflin: Boston: 1941. Inscribed on front free endpaper opposite title page: “To Nancy (& Sam too) / from her old friends / the Reys / Jan. 1, 1961”. Though H.A. Rey’s wife, Margret, was not credited on early copies of “Curious George”, the character and stories were co-authored by the couple. Bound in red cloth without dustjacket, fully illustrated book contains 52 pages. Measures 8.5″ x 10.5″. Light sunning and discoloration to boards, and binding is starting to separate along hinges, especially towards bottom. Previous owner’s name is unobtrusively written on ownership page. Overall very good condition, with very rare original ink drawing. Sold for $2,250.
