Charles Bukowski Signed First Edition of “Ham on Rye” — With a Small Drawing in His Hand

Charles Bukowski signed first edition of “Ham on Rye”, Black Sparrow Press: Santa Barbara: 1982. This is number 257 in an edition limited to 350 signed copies. Bukowski adds a caricature drawing and signs “Charles Bukowski” to the limitation page, located at the rear of the book. Runs 283pp. Bound in pictorial boards with yellow cloth spine. Small puncture to the front joint, else near fine. Sold for $1,460.

Charles Bukowski Signed First Edition Limited to Just 15 Copies– With Erotic Original Art Signed by Bukowski Tipped-in, Previously Unknown & Deemed too “Controversial”

Fantastic twice-signed first edition book of poems by Charles Bukowski, “At Terror Street and Agony Way.” Black Sparrow Press: San Francisco: 1968. Signed edition, limited to 75 copies, each with an original tipped-in illustration by Bukowski, with 15 of these marked for presentation, according to Bukowski bibliographer Aaron Krumhansl. This presentation copy is made even more rare with an erotic illustration deemed too controversial for regular presentation copies. Tipped-in drawing, done in red and green ink, and signed “BUK” is accompanied by a note from Black Sparrow publisher John Martin, reading in full, “John — there was one drawing that I didn’t feel I could use in the published book (it was controversial, as they say) so I put it into this copy and marked it for presentation. So now I’ll let you worry about what to do with it!!! jm”. Hardcover book with clear acetate dust jacket, as issued, is in fine condition, beautifully preserved. An exceptional, one-of-a-kind, early Bukowski book and original piece of art, with excellent association. Sold for $3,670.

Charles Bukowski Original Artwork From “The Day It Snowed in L.A.” — One of Only 11 Copies of the Limited Edition Signed by Bukowski & Containing His Hand-Drawn Illustration From the Book

Very rare limited edition of “The Day It Snowed in L.A.”, Charles Bukowski’s subversive R-rated comic book. In addition to a signed sketch by Bukowski within the book, this copy also contains the original 8.5″ x 11″ artwork by Bukowski of one of the pages of the book. Bukowski’s signed sketch appears on the page facing the limited edition page, which indicates this copy is #8 of a limited edition of only 11 handbound copies containing an original drawing. Sutton West & Santa Barbara: The Paget Press, 1986. This copy contains Bukowski’s drawing of page seven, after the trio drives off the gang that tried to steal their melting snowman. Illustration measures 8.5″ x 11″, folded and tucked into the special pink wrapper attached to the front of the book, made to hold the illustration. Illustration rendered in marker, with signed sketch rendered in fine felt-tip. Book measures 5.75″ x 8.75″, housed in glassine wrapper. Beautifully preserved, in near fine condition. Sold for $1,350.
