Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven” Lobby Card from Universal’s Classic 1935 Film Starring Boris Karloff & Bela Lugosi
Classic lobby card from “The Raven”, promoting Universal’s 1935 darkly haunting horror film starring two of their marquee villains, Boris Karloff (Frankenstein) and Bela Lugosi (Dracula) as a mad doctor and his fugitive criminal accomplice. Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s classic poem, this chilling film has become a cult classic and is held as one of the standard bearers of Universal horror films. Card measures 14″ x 11″. Chip to upper left corner and light abrasions to left margin, otherwise near fine condition, with still bright coloring. Very rare example from the classic Universal film. Sold for $4,870.

Lobby card from Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven”, adapted by Universal in 1935 as one of its marquee horror films. With two of Hollywood’s most bankable stars in the lead, Borris Karloff & Bela Lugosi, the darkly atmospheric and haunting film was considered too strong for 1935 audience’s tastes, but is now held as an exemplar of Universal’s horror franchise, following on the heels of “Dracula” and “Frankenstein”. Lobby card measures 14″ x 11″. Some discoloration to bottom left corner. Overall very good plus condition with still bright colors. Extremely rare. Sold for $5,000.
Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven” Lobby Card From Universal’s Classic 1935 Film Starring Horror Icons Boris Karloff & Bela Lugosi
Extremely rare lobby card from Universal’s “The Raven”, released in 1935. Horror masters Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi were cast in this adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s poem, inspired more by the tone of Poe’s work than the actual storyline. Vibrantly colored card features Boris Karloff as Bela Lugosi’s criminal accomplice, here shown choking actor Lester Matthews. Card measures 14″ x 11″. Abrasions and light soiling, mostly confined to margins, and small closed puncture towards top, with tape repair to verso. Overall in very good condition with especially bright colors. Sold for $3,718.
