The 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm, Sweden were the fifth modern Olympics and brought together 2,407 athletes from 28 countries. The games have been referred to as the “Swedish Masterpiece” due to the efficiency of preparation involved, the first use of a public address system and introduction of electronic timing equipment for track events. Native American Jim Thorpe was the show stealer of the 1912 Olympics by winning two gold medals with large margins in the pentathlon and decathlon events.

Silver Medal From the 1912 Summer Olympics, Held in Stockholm, Sweden

Silver medal from the V Olympiad, won at the Olympic games in Stockholm, Sweden in 1912. Obverse of medal bears a relief of two female figures, placing a crown atop an athlete; the reverse is a relief of a herald proclaiming “Ling”, the founder of the Swedish gym system, with “Olympiska / Spelen / Stockholm 1912″ written around edge. Medal measures 1.4” or 33 mm in diameter. Weighs 17.9 g or 0.63 oz. Very light tarnishing. Very good to near fine condition. Sold for $4,869.

Discoloration to box and some tarnishing to medal. Very good condition overall. Sold for $4,200.
