Sell Your 1968 Olympics Torch Mexico City

The Mexico City Summer Olympics of 1968 united over 5,500 athletes from 112 nations and is remembered for being controversial due to the high altitude of the city. The altitude of nearly 7,400 feet above sea level posed a problem for endurance events, but was beneficial for some and several new records resulted from taking place in the thinner air.

The route of the 1968 Summer Olympics Torch Relay honored the relationship between the Mediterranean and American nations and followed the first route of Christopher Columbus’s first voyage. The final torchbearer was hurdler Enriqueta Basilio, who made history as the first female athlete to light the Olympic cauldron.
