Aldous Huxley Brave New World 1st Edition Sold
Aldous Huxley was a 20th century English writer and philosopher who is best-known for his 1932 novel Brave New World. The dystopian novel has always been surrounded by controversy as it was once banned in Ireland and Australia. Even in recent years the American Library Association reported that Brave New World was among the top books that Americans wanted banned. The book has also received tremendous praise appearing on many top book lists including the number five spot on Modern Library’s 100 Best Novels.

Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World,” London: Chatto & Windus: 1932. First edition, first printing accompanied by first edition dustjacket. One of Huxley’s most popular works, a quintessential novel of ideas and the definitive critique of the technology based ‘rational’ society. Original blue cloth boards, spine lettered and tooled in gold, top edge dyed blue. Spine is darkened from slight sunning but remains tight; interior pages remain clean. Dustjacket shows slight restoration to flap folds and vertical edges. Overall excellent condition. Sold for $2,830.
Huxley “Brave New World” 1st Ed.
Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World.” Chatto & Windus: London: 1932. First edition, first printing accompanied by extremely scarce first state dustjacket. Blue cloth boards with gilt titling to spine and top edge tinted blue. Dustjacket not price-clipped and shows wear to edges with several small closed tears to front bottom and top edge; chipping to head and loss to the tail of spine. Volume appears unread. A very handsome rare book. Sold for $1,646.

First edition of ”Fahrenheit 451” signed by author Ray Bradbury. Ballantine Books: New York: 1953. Bradbury’s cult classic novella is considered one of the finest literary works of science fiction, with ink illustrations by Joe Mugnaini. First edition hardback in original price-clipped dustjacket is bound in red cloth boards, measuring 5.5” x 8”. Near fine condition, with small strip of dampstaining to lower edge of front board and previous owner’s name on signature page. Dustjacket is in beautiful, near fine condition with only slight wear. Sold for $2,520.

First edition of George Orwell’s classic futuristic novel, ”Nineteen Eighty-Four”. London: Secker & Warburg, 1949. Lime green boards are housed in the original forest green dust jacket, with the 10s. net price present on the front flap. 5.25” x 7.5” book is in very good condition with some light foxing. Dust jacket is in very good condition with some professional restoration. Sold for $2,250.
Ayn Rand signed limited edition of ”Atlas Shrugged”, Random House: New York: 1967. Rand’s celebrated final novel set in a dystopian America popularized the philosophy of Objectivism and rational self-interest. Limitation page is signed ”Ayn Rand” in blue ink and indicates this is number 721 of a 10th Anniversary signed edition limited to 2,000 such copies. At 1168pp., this is her lengthiest piece of literature. Bound in blue cloth boards with gilt lettering and top edge blue. Measures 6” x 8.75”. Some minor blue ink to spine and scratching to bottom edge, else near fine. Sold for $2,188.
