Bruce Ismay Autograph Sold
Bruce Ismay was the owner and chairman of the White Star Line, the shipping company of the RMS Titanic, at the time of the Titanic’s tragic sinking in 1912. Ismay was aboard the Titanic during its infamous maiden voyage and survived by boarding one of the last lifeboats. He was heavily criticized by the press for surviving the sinking and many called him the “coward of the Titanic”. In the aftermath of the Titanic sinking Ismay was also accused of pressuring Captain Edward J. Smith to speed up to arrive early in New York for some positive PR. Ismay’s reputation failed to recoup after the Titanic tragedy and he resigned from White Star Line in 1913 and lived as a recluse for the remainder of his life.
