Bill Klem Autograph Sold

Bill Klem was a Major League Baseball umpire for the National League between 1905 to 1941. His original aspiration was to be a baseball catcher, but an arm injury derailed those pursuits. His humble beginnings began as an umpire for Class D games and within four years was working for the National League. Klem worked 18 World Series during his career and holds the MLB record for most career ejections by an umpire. Klem umpired during the dead-ball era as well the Golden Age of Baseball, and witnessed the game evolve tremendously over his 37 year career. He was called “The Old Arbiter” and was one of the most respected umpires of the MLB. Klem was exceptionally dedicated to his craft as evidenced by his quote, “Baseball is more than a game to me. It’s a religion.” In 1953 Klem was one of the first umpires to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
