Alberto Korda Che Guevara Photo Sold at Auction

Alberto Korda’s legendary photo of Che Guevara, “Guerrillero Heroico”, is one of the most reproduced and recognizable images in the last several decades. Korda, a Cuban native, was a fashion photographer and is best-known for documenting photos of the Cuban Revolution. Korda was also the personal photographer of Fidel Castro and documented the Cuban Revolution by photographing Castro in places the revolution led him. The famous image of Che Guevara was captured on March 5, 1960 when Korda was working as a photographer of Cuban magazine “Revolución”. He is famously known for not obtaining royalties from the image. The film roll that contains “Guerrillero Heroico” also photographed French philosophers Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir as they met with Castro, Che Guevara and other revolution leaders

Che Guevara signed photo to his colleague Eduardo Pena. Guevara inscribes an intimate dedication to his friend, ”A Eduardo Pena / como memoria inboprable [or imborrable] del momento rotundo con recuerdo fotografico / Che”, translating to, ”To Eduardo Pena / A souvenir photo to remember the resounding time / Che”. With ”Laboratorio / Articolor” stamped to verso, photo measures 9.75” x 7.75”. Small bend to lower left, light creasing and fading to photo. Overall very good condition with bold handwriting and signature. Sold for $3,125.

Original print signed by Alberto Korda, photographer best remembered for this image entitled “Heroic Warrior” of revolutionary Che Guevara. Personally developed by Korda from the original negative and signed in bold black ink by him at lower right. Image printed on Ilford Multigrade III photographic paper measures 11″ x 14″. Near fine condition. Accompanied by letter of authenticity from Korda’s widow. Sold for $2,912.

Rare Che Guevara 1.5 Million Bond Signed as President of The National Bank of Cuba in 1960

Che Guevara bond document signed, ”Che” as Fiduciary Agent of the National Bank of Cuba. Bond in the amount of 1.5 million pesos is labeled as issued in Havana City in on 30 May 1960, just two months before Eisenhower called for the training of anti-Castro forces in preparation for an invasion of Cuba. Countersigned by the Minister of the Treasury. Single-page document measures 14” x 11”. Standard cancellations, else near fine. Sold for $1,875.

Fantastic content Che Guevara 1959 Letter Signed — ”…[It] is not acceptable…to believe that…Alvarado acted in self defense…he can be careless and selfish…”

Excellent Che Guevara typed letter signed as Chief of the Cuban Military, with content regarding inappropriate behavior of one of his lieutenants. On Cuba’s National Defense Ministry stationery, Guevara writes on 5 May 1959 critiquing the conduct of a young man named Javier Alvarado. Spanish-language letter translates to: ”…In its communication of the court, is not acceptable in my opinion, to believe that the young lieutenant, Javier Alvarado acted in self defense. His history has shown that he can be careless and selfish and the incident on Thursday with MHS has once again strengthened my beliefs. I highly recommend that you put him in a position where he can be taught that his command includes a large responsibility for his actions…” Stamped with a Cuban Ministry of Defense seal. Single page measures 8.25” x 10.5”. Foxing, toning and chipping along bottom edge. Good to very good condition. Sold for $1,720.
