1962 New York Mets Autograph Yearbook Sold

We recently sold a 1962 New York Mets autograph yearbook for $1,850. 1962 was the inaugural season for the Mets. After the departure of the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers in 1958 for the sunny coast of California, New York City was left without a National League team. In 1962 the Mets finished last in the National League with 40 wins and 120 losses. However, just seven years later in 1969 they won the World Series earning the nickname “Miracle Mets” for the year. The team colors of the Mets were selected to honor New York City’s previous teams- blue for the Dodgers and orange for the Giants. This autographed yearbook offers some insight into the first year of the New York Mets. Please see below for details on the lot.

New York Mets Signed 1962 Yearbook — First Year of Play in National League — 50+ Signatures Include HOFers Casey Stengel and Richie Ashburn plus Gil Hodges, Clem Labine, Don Zimmer and Joe Pignatano — With JSA COA

New York Mets Official 1962 Yearbook, their inaugural year in the National League, with more than 50 team signatures. Most signatures are on the front cover of the 8.5″ x 11″ book; many other players sign their bio pages and some sign twice. Hall of Fame manager Casey Stengel, the “ole Perfesser,” signs in pencil on his bio. HOF outfielder Richie Ashburn signs the cover and again on the photo of Flushing Meadows Stadium, the new home for the Mets 1963 season. First baseman Gil Hodges signs the photo on his bio page. Other key players Clem Labine, Don Zimmer and Joe Pignatano add their autographs to the front cover. The yearbook runs 48pp. with the content of some pages, including 7/8, 19, 23/24 and 41, duplicated. Light wear to cover with minor soiling and tape residue to interior pages and partial separation of center pages at staple binding. Overall very good. With JSA COA. Sold for $1,850.

Mets 1962 Dinner Program Signed — Signatures Include HOFers Casey Stengel, Richie Ashburn, Red Ruffing and Rogers Hornsby

”Nassau County adopts The ‘Mets’ Dinner” program, dated 16 April 1962, the first regular season for the team. The four page program includes a list of honored guests, including Mets manager Casey Stengel, and a menu. A photo on the back cover shows Stengel batting in a Mets uniform. Signatures on the front cover include Hall of Famers Casey Stengel, Richie Ashburn, Red Ruffing and Rogers Hornsby. A total of 22 signatures, all Mets players, appear on the front cover. Minor toning and creasing to 8.5” x 11” program, else very good. Sold for $1,109.
