Pablo Picasso Pichet Yan A R 140 Sold at Auction

Pablo Picasso began creating ceramic works later in his career, beginning in 1947, so that his work could be obtainable by more people. He found the craft relaxing compared to laborious and taxing painting. Picasso created about 9,000 ceramic pieces at Madoura Pottery in the South of France and the first items made were modest and practical items, such as plates and bowls.

Pablo Picasso left Paris after World War II for Madoura Pottery in the South of France and began work there as an apprentice. He was making a statement about simplifying life and living more modestly. In Picasso’s eyes clay was a humble medium compared to the more arduous task of painting. He had crafted about 2,000 ceramics during his first year at Madoura.
