Stephen King signed first edition, first printing of “The Shining”. New York: Doubleday & Co., 1977. King inscribes the front free endpaper, “Stephen King / 1/23/92”. A near fine copy in tan and black boards measuring 5.75″ x 8.5″ with first edition points present: “R49” code on page 447, and “FIRST EDITION” statement on copyright page. First printing dust jacket is also near fine, with $8.95 price intact. Lot includes a fun pictorial survey from “The Stanley Hotel” requesting feedback on the guest experience. Sold for $2,000.

Stephen King Signed First Printing of “The Shining”

Bestselling author Stephen King signed first edition, first printing of his horror classic “The Shining.” Doubleday & Company: Garden City, NY: 1977. King signs in black ink upon the front free endpaper dated 23 January 1992. This was King’s third published novel, after the popular “Salem’s Lot” and “Carrie.” Bound in black and gold cloth boards, with gilt lettering on backstrip. First printing mark R49 on the final page 447. Unclipped dustjacket lists the price of $8.95. Includes customer satisfaction card from the Stanley Hotel, the historic Colorado building that inspired King’s location choice for the novel. Book measures 5.75″ x 8.5″. Slight bumping to backstrip and minor creasing to dustjacket. Near fine. Sold for $1,800.

Stephen King Signed Limited Edition of “Christine” — Near Fine Condition

Stephen King signed limited edition of “Christine”, number 94 of 1,000 copies. King signs the front free endpaper, “Stephen King” along with the artist, Stephen Gervais. West Kingston, RI: Donald M. Grant, Publisher Inc., 1983. Housed in original slipcase, measuring 6.5″ x 9.5″. Book, dust jacket and slipcase are all in immaculate, near fine condition. Sold for $1,654.

Signed Copy of Stephen King’s First Novel, ”Carrie” — First Edition, First Printing in Near Fine Condition

Signed and inscribed first printing of Stephen King’s first published novel, ”Carrie.” Doubleday & Co., Inc.: Garden City, NY: 1974. First edition, first impression (with code ”P6” printed in the gutter of page 199). Inscribed by Stephen King in black ink on the half-title page, ”For Tim – Be well, Stephen King / 6/24/88.” In publisher’s original maroon cloth with gilt spine titles and deckled fore-edge. With very minor shelf wear and new endpapers. Dustjacket is slightly rubbed with a tiny tear to the foot of the spine. A near fine copy of the author’s breakout novel. Sold for $1,477.

Advanced Uncorrected Proof of Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger” — Scarce

Advanced uncorrected proof of Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger.” United Kingdom: Sphere Books: 1988. Illustrated by Michael Whelan. Extremely rare advanced uncorrected proof of the first installment of King’s Dark Tower series. Creasing to all pages and spine at top left corner; binding remains tight. Overall in very good condition. Sold for $1,460.

Stephen King First Edition ”The Stand” Signed From 1979

Stephen King signed first edition of ”The Stand,” Doubleday & Co.: Garden State: 1978. The horror author adds his autograph inscription in blue ink to the front free endpaper: ”To Jeff – Thanks for the nice notice in the Times – All Best, Stephen King / 9/8/79.” With ”Carrie,” ”Salem’s Lot” and ”The Shining” under his belt, King wrote this novel, his fourth, as a fantasy epic, set in a post-apocalyptic southwestern United States. Runs 823pp. Bound in manila paper boards with a black cloth spine and gilt lettering. Toning to leaves, else near fine. With near fine dustjacket save for toning and housed in a black and white magnetic slipcase to an overall size of 6.5” x 9.5” x 3”. Sold for $1,250.

Stephen King “The Gunslinger” Signed — First Edition

Stephen King signed and inscribed first edition of “The Gunslinger”. One of 10,000 copies printed. Written over a period of twelve years, “The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower, Book 1)” is the first in a series of stories considered among the strangest and most frightening of King’s novels. The book follows Roland, the last gunslinger, and his quest for the Dark Tower somewhere in a world in which time has no bearing. Donald M. Grant: Rhode Island: 1982. All first edition points present, with (1) both trade and limited prices listed on front flap of dustjacket, and (2) “Printed in the United States of America – First Edition” on copyright page. Original maroon cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine. Near fine condition with nice, uninscribed “Stephen King” signature on half-title page. Includes polaroid photograph of King signing the book. Sold for $1,182.

Stephen King’s Pre-Publication Proof of “Cujo” — Signed & Inscribed by King — “…Don’t let the dog bite! Stephen King…”

Stephen King signed and inscribed copy of his 1981 bestseller “Cujo”. Viking Press pre-publication proof is signed and inscribed: “For Wyatt – Don’t let the dog bite! Stephen King 10/29/82”. Very minor bumping to edges and scattered foxing. Very good condition. Sold for $975.

Stephen King signed copy of “The Stand”. New York: Doubleday & Co., 1990. The iconic author signs “Stephen King” in blue ink to the title page of this “for the first time complete & uncut” edition, totaling over 1,000 pages, over 300pp. longer than the first edition. Bound in charcoal grey boards with red metallic detailing and red endpapers. Measures 6.75″ x 9.5″. A gorgeous near fine copy in a near fine dust jacket. Sold for $801.

Stephen King Signed “Pet Sematary” — First Edition, First Printing

Attractive signed copy of Stephen King’s classic, “Pet Sematary”. Garden City, NY: Doubleday & Co., 1983. First edition, first printing with “1982” error on jacket back, $15.95 price, first edition stated on copyright page and “Y38” on page 374. Signed upon the title page in black ink, “Stephen King / 7/7/87″. One of Stephen King’s most terrifying novels, reportedly so frightening that even he considered not finishing the manuscript. Measures 6.5″ x 9.5”. Chipping to spine of dust jacket, else near fine. Book is near fine. Sold for $732.

Stephen King Typed Letter Signed From 1976 — “…hold onto your sunny disposition…”

Stephen King typed letter signed, dated 24 July 1976, on his personal letterhead. He writes to Ms. Merrill Skrocki at Doubleday, the publisher of his popular early novels, “Carrie” and “Salem’s Lot,” congratulating her on a new job. The single page letter reads in part, “…I just wanted to wish you the best of luck, although I expect luck didn’t have all that much to do with landing the new job…I’ll miss your cheerful voice at the other end of the phone. I hope you’ll drop a line once in awhile, so Tabby [his wife, Tabitha] and I will know that you’re getting along well…So…congrats on the new gig, and all the best from Tabby and myself. Keep well and hold onto your sunny disposition. Repeat, all the best, [signed] Steve”. Light toning to 8.5″ x 11″ letter; moderate toning to accompanying envelope with King’s address sticker affixed. Overall very good. Sold for $701.

Stephen King Signed ”Night Shift” — His First Short Story Collection & First Book in Which He Writes a Foreword

Stephen King signed ”Night Shift,” Doubleday & Co.: Garden City: 1978. King inscribes the front free endpaper in blue ink, in full: ”For Ken Nelson, with best wishes / Stephen King / May 19, 1978”. This is the first book to comprise King’s short stories, 20 in all, including ”Children of the Corn” and four previously unpublished works. The ”Carrie” author breaks with his personal tradition for the first time with this book by addressing his readers directly in a foreword. Runs 336pp. Bound in bright red-orange paper boards with black faux-leather spine and gilt lettering. Measures 6” x 8.5”. Near fine. With dustjacket featuring a photo of the bespectacled thirty year-old author. Very good, save for toning. Sold for $624.

Stephen King Signed First Printing of “Different Seasons”

Stephen King signed first edition, first printing of “Different Seasons.” The Viking Press: New York: 1982: Strong black ink signature on front free endpaper reads “For Brad / All best / Stephen King / 7/24/82”. “Different Seasons” consists of four novellas, two of which were adapted into hit films “The Shawshank Redemption” and “Stand By Me.” Bound in blue paper boards with gilt embellishments, book measures 6.25″ x 9.5″. Original dustjacket lists $16.95 price. Minor bumping to boards and light foxing to interior; near fine. Light chipping to edges of dustjacket, also near fine. Sold for $377.

Stephen King Letter Signed From 1981 — ”…I’ve been busy working on a movie I wrote, ‘Creepshow’…That movie, as well as a new book, ‘Different Seasons’ will be out next summer…”

Stephen King typed letter signed on a postcard, sent to a fan on 2 December 1981. King writes to one James Roberts of Liberty, MO., ”…Dear James Roberts / Sorry for this terribly late reply to your good letter — I did appreciate the good words. I’ve been busy working on a movie I wrote, ‘Creepshow’, and have had little time for anything else. That movie, as well as a new book, ‘Different Seasons’, will be out next summer. Hope you’ll enjoy them. I myself have never had the urge to write to a paleontologist, but I’ll keep your advice in mind! Hope your work is going well, and that you have a merry and prosperous Christmas and New Year.” King signs his name, ”Stephen King” in blue ink to postcard, which features his Maine post office box and postage cancellation stamps to verso. Measures 5.5” x 3.5”. Light toning, else near fine. Sold for $313.

Stephen King Signed Postcard — ”CHRISTINE will be out in May….sleep with the bathroom light on and the covers tucked in and you’ll be alright. Probably…”

Stephen King signed postcard. The horror author signs ”Stephen King” to a rather humorous typed postcard he sent to a fan. He plugs his latest work about a haunted car determined to kill its driver. Dated 23 March 1983, it reads in part: ”Dear Penny Davis…Glad you…enjoyed the books…I also appreciate you shelling out money for the hardcovers…I fight with the publishers to keep the cost from going up. CHRISTINE will be out in May; hope you like her…sleep with the bathroom light on and the covers tucked in and you’ll be alright. Probably…” Postcard measures 5.5” x 3.5”. Postal markings and a small smudge beneath the fan’s address, else fine. Sold for $313.
