Sell Your Geoffrey Chaucer Kelmscott Press for $100,000

Today, bibliophiles are treated to elite and limited publishing with the likes of Taschen whose volumes can sell for hundreds or thousands of dollars each, and before that and less elaborate than Taschen, Easton Press, who publishes limited edition leather bound books, often with the original signature of the author such as Mikhail Gorbachev or Nelson Mandela.  I’m sure that all rare book dealers know about Kelmscott Press, but a lot of book buyers who have tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars invested in the fancy, limited edition publishing genre of the 20th and 21st century may not.  Kelmscott Press was a pioneer publishing company for this genre and was the last venture of a William Morris of 19th century Britain, one who fancied in decorative arts, described as a die-hard socialist, but to my eye, was a shrewd capitalist.  He put together limited runs of classic books in fancy bindings that have been collector items for over 100 years.  His most classic manufacturing was putting together a Geoffrey Chaucer Kelmscott Press book in pigskin with numerous woodcut illustrations in a run of only 425 copies (A 13 volume vellum set was offered too).  Auction records indicate that the Geoffrey Chaucer Kelmscott Press book limited to 425 copies sold for the following prices:

2010, the Geoffrey Chaucer Kelmscott Press book sold for over $160,000

2008, the Geoffrey Chaucer Kelmscott Press book sold for over $120,000

2007, the Geoffrey Chaucer Kelmscott Press book sold for $150,000

2002, the Geoffrey Chaucer Kelmscott Press book sold for almost $180,000

We at Nate D. Sanders Auction House (http://www.NateDSanders.com) can obtain up to the same prices for you or more and offer you a $100,000 reserve to auction a Geoffrey Chaucer Kelmscott Press book with our auction house.

Please email [email protected] (Subject: Chaucer Kelmscott Press).

So, it looks like the Geoffrey Chaucer Kelmscott Press book has not been a great investment over the last 15 years, but since it is still a 6-figure rare book, it is at least a hot commodity.  And since it appears to have not sold in the last 7 years, who knows how high the price will be in 2017 and 2018?

Our rare books department just completed another auction sale that made headlines (we also get great PR for you).  We can do the same for you.  See below:
